HAIR EXTENSIONS

FAQ'S

+WHY DO I NEED A CONSULTATION?

A consultation is required so we can see your hair and discuss the best options for you. We will go over which method is best, desired length and colour and the amount of hair you will need. The colour match is important during our consult as most clients tend to have several tones and shades in their natural hair, so it's best to see this in person so we can find the best possible match for you.

+WHAT IS REMY HAIR?

Remy hair is the highest grade of real human hair.  Remy hair has been carefully collected and sorted after coming off the donors head to ensure all cuticles are preserved and facing the same direction, which prevents the hair from tangling and shedding.  It's important that the hair cuticles are all the same length, which ensures the most natural and fullest look, meaning the hair will not be sparse and stringy.  Remy hair is a must when deciding on what type of hair to go with because this ensures your extensions will stay full and soft throughout it's lifetime!

+WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SYNTHETIC & HUMAN HAIR?

Synthetic hair fibres are fine threads, sometimes made up of acrylic and polyester fibres, manufactured to resemble human hair.  Synthetic hair is not ideal for hair extensions for the following reasons: it doesn't react well with washing, you can not apply heat (no styling tools), nor hair products.  The texture is very rough and plastic like as well as the hair being sparse and very susceptible to tangling.  It does not blend well with natural hair.  We only use 100 % Remy human hair so you never have to worry about any of the problems that come along with synthetic.

+HOW LONG DO THE EXTENSIONS LAST?

For Fusion and Tape-ins, they can last anywhere from 3-7months.  The duration of time depends on several factors: how fast your natural hair grows and how easily your natural hair hides the extensions as they grow out. Another very important factor is how well the extensions are maintained.  Its important to take good care of the hair so it will last a long time.

For Clip-ins they can last 6 months to a year.  Because clip-ins are not worn to bed, are not washed as frequently and generally are not worn 24 hrs a day, they have a much longer life span.  Our hair quality is superior so this helps to keep them super silky and full for months.

+CAN I TREAT MY HAIR EXTENSIONS LIKE THEY ARE MY OWN HAIR?

Absolutely! You can wash them, style them with your favourite tools (blow dryer, hair straightener, curling iron, crimper), or use your favourite styling products (hair spray, dry shampoo, leave in conditioner, smoothing oils).

+CAN I DYE MY EXTENSIONS?

We do not recommend dying the extensions as this can cause them to dry out faster, but if you are purchasing the highest quality (package) of hair from our lines, some brands can be dyed by a professional colourist.

+HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WASH MY EXTENSIONS?

For fusion and tape extensions we recommend 2-3x a week max. You will notice that they won't need to be washed everyday, and can get away with even only washing a couple times a week.

For Clip-ins it depends on how often you are wearing them.  It can go anywhere from 10-20 wears before you have to wash them.  You will be able to tell when they are ready for a wash, due to product buildup and how they are styling.

+HOW DO I KNOW WHICH COLOUR AND LENGTH ARE BEST FOR ME?

Your colours and length will be discussed during your consultation. We will match your hair and decide on whether we need to choose more than one colour. With many of our blondes, we add 2 to 3 different tones so we get the best match to your natural colour. If you are brunette and want to add a subtle lowlight to add some dimension, we can do that as well. Your desired length will also be discussed. We will go over the different lengths and what will look best for the most natural blend with your hair.

+WILL EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY NATURAL HAIR?

The 2 biggest reasons for damaged hair after extension wear is: Application and removal techniques were not done professionally and with the proper care and products for your natural hair. And proper after care was not followed while maintaining the extensions for the months following. (For example, not brushing properly or caring before going to bed. Being too rough on the extensions themselves can also damage your natural hair).

We treat your hair like our own and ensure your hair is always properly taken care of in the safest manner. With proper application, removal and after care, the extensions will not harm your natural hair.

+IS THE TAPE METHOD SAFE?

The tape method is the safest for your natural hair.  The tape is not just any kind of regular tape; it is specifically for long term wear with wigs and extensions.  It is comfortable and flexible.  You wont even feel like there is anything in your hair. The application process is extremely safe as well as the removal.  A special oil is applied to the wefts, and the extensions slide right out.

Anyone can wear the tape extensions but it is especially popular amongst girls who have thinner, damaged or brittle hair, as it does not cause any stress to your natural hair, therefore letting your natural hair breathe and grow and repair.

+IS THE FUSION METHOD SAFE FOR MY NATURAL HAIR?

The fusion method is safe as long as your technician is fully trained and certified for the application and removal of fusion.  The biggest reason for damage to your natural hair with fusion is because of the following:

1.) Not properly taking care of your hair. (Not brushing on a daily basis, not pulling up when sleeping, not being gentle when styling and washing.)

2.) The application and removal method is not done with time, care and proper solution and tools.

Fusion extensions are best for girls who have stronger and healthier hair. This method can sometimes cause a little more stress to the natural hair, as there are more individual strands throughout the head, and they are attached to a smaller single strand of your own hair. The health of your natural hair is extremely important to us, so if we feel your natural hair is not strong enough to hold the weight of the fusion strands, we will discuss this with you during your consultation.

+WHAT PRODUCTS DO I USE ON MY EXTENSIONS?

It's best to use high quality products to ensure your extensions get the full lifespan out of them.  A good shampoo and conditioner that is sulfate free, is a must, as well as leave in serums or treatments are all great for both your hair and your extensions.  It is highly recommended to use a leave in product that is geared towards moisturizing and nourishing hair, as well as a heat protectant spray and smoothing serum for after styling.

+WHAT DO I DO WHEN IT'S TIME FOR MY EXTENSIONS TO BE REMOVED?

As your natural hair grows, your extensions will slowly start to move away from being close to the scalp.  You will know it's time to have them removed when the bonds/wefts of hair are starting to become more noticeable and it may be harder to style.  When this happens you can come and have them removed and decide whether you want to do a re-install. Removal time for tape is approx 30 min and fusion removal is closer to 60 min.

+RE-INSTALLATION:

Depending on how well the hair has been taken care of, you can re-use the hair from your first installation.  When they are removed, we will wash and treat them and re-tape, for the next installation.  When you get home, make sure to give your head a full shampoo and condition as well as a condition masque/treatment.  Make sure to not use any more product on your hair after your hair is dry, especially on the roots.  This ensures a secure bond when the extensions are put back in. You can have new extensions re-installed the very next day if you choose to.

*Depending on which line of hair you choose and how well they are maintained, the hair can be re-used anywhere from 2-4 more re-tapings. We have even seen some clients extend the re-use past 6 re-tapings.
